Historic Launch
On May 4, 2024, Feadship launched Project 821, a 118.80-meter superyacht, at its Amsterdam shipyard. This superyacht is powered by hydrogen fuel cells, making it the world's first. The development of this groundbreaking marvel took five years, setting a new standard for sustainable luxury in the maritime world.
Green Technology Breakthrough
Project 821 runs without emitting any pollution thanks to its use of green hydrogen. The yacht's hydrogen fuel cells produce electricity and only generate pure water as a byproduct. This breakthrough ensures that the vessel has no impact on the environment, representing a significant advancement in maritime technology. The yacht's fuel cells can also use methanol to create hydrogen, providing flexibility and sustainability.
Collaborative Innovation
Feadship, Edmiston, and Lloyd's Register worked together to create safety rules and procedures for hydrogen storage and fuel-cell systems in the maritime sector, where there were no existing regulations. This collaboration underscores the importance of safety and sustainability in the luxury yacht industry.
Elegant Design and Features
Project 821, managed by Edmiston, is a luxury yacht known for its elegant design. It has 14 balconies, five shell doors, and seven large opening platforms, offering great views and access to the sea. The interior design features high-quality materials like marble, rattan, eucalyptus, and oak to create a luxurious and comfortable family environment.
Environmental Impact
The yacht uses clean hydrogen power for its utility, significantly reducing its carbon footprint. Project 821's generators can run on HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) for longer journeys, cutting harmful emissions by 90%. The yacht also has a storage tank for liquid hydrogen and a system that recovers waste heat to improve efficiency, ensuring it remains eco-friendly even during extended operations.
Future Vision for Yachting
Feadship plans to create yachts that produce zero emissions by 2030, and Project 821 is the first step in achieving this goal. The yacht can operate silently and without emissions for a week while at anchor, showing the future of eco-friendly yachting.
Spacious and Luxurious
Project 821 has wide corridors and side decks, providing spacious and comfortable navigation throughout the yacht with a 19-meter beam. It is designed to be ideal for family use, with extensive private spaces. This yacht is the largest motor yacht ever launched in The Netherlands, representing sustainable innovation in the maritime industry. Feadship is dedicated to creating luxurious yet environmentally friendly vessels, which is evident in every aspect of this exceptional superyacht. This paves the way for a greener future in luxury yachting.
